  • Vicksburg District’s Joe Parker Promoted

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District has promoted Joe P. Parker to the position of Assistant Chief of the Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) of the Operations Division’s Revetment Operations Branch.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts 15th Annual Eagle Watch

    VICKSBURG, MISS… Arkabutla Lake will host the 15th annual Mid Winter Bald Eagle Survey, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 7:00 a.m. Volunteers will watch, count and document movement of bald eagles around Arkabutla Lake. Volunteers will meet at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast and to sign volunteer paper work, pre-registration is not required.
  • Mat Sinking Unit Completes Season

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) has completed its scheduled work for 2014. During this season, the MSU has placed over 500 acres of articulated concrete mats on the banks of the Mississippi River.
  • Notice of Availability of Leased Lands near Sardis Lake

    Vicksburg, Miss. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is offering agricultural land for lease to the public. These sections of agricultural lands consist of several tracts in Lafayette, Marshall, and Panola counties near Sardis Lake. The Notice of Availability number for these tracts is DACW38-9-15-6. These properties will be leased for crops, hay, highly erodible land (HEL), pasture and grazed woods.
  • Boy Scouts Build Wood Duck Nesting Boxes for Waterfowl at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, MISS… Nine boy scouts from Troop 41, Hernando, recently built wood duck nesting boxes for waterfowl at Arkabutla Lake. The scouts converted 40 1x10x12 rough cut cypress planks into luxury suites that resulted in 66 boxes. The boxes will be placed on 4x4 posts around the backwaters and coves of Arkabutla Lake and the Coldwater River channel and sloughs scattered throughout the Askew Wildlife Management Area.
  • Steel Bayou Channel Repair Project Completed Ahead of Schedule

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s (District) work on the Steel Bayou Drainage Structure Outlet Channel Repair Project near the Mississippi Highway 465 bridge was completed on November 17, 2014, nearly two weeks ahead of schedule.

  • Arkabutla Lake Hosting Youth Waterfowl Hunt

    VICKSBURG, MISS… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake personnel and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on January 24th and 25th 2015, in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach younger hunters proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • Youth Raccoon Hunt to be held at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, MISS… U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake personnel and the Arkabutla Raccoon Hunting Association will host its annual Youth Raccoon Hunt for area youth aged 10-15 years old on January 30-31st, 2015, February 6-7, and February 13-14. The hunt will be held at the natural area below the dam.
  • Vicksburg District’s Kirk Ross Returns from Afghanistan

    Vicksburg, Miss……Kirk Ross, Natural Resources Management Specialist with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, recently returned from a more than two-year deployment that ended at Bagram, Afghanistan, in support of Overseas Contingency Operations.
