  • Vicksburg District Honors Local STEM Students and Teachers

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently commended local high school students and teachers from area schools that excelled in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) during the past school year. Colonel John W. Cross, Commander of the Vicksburg District, presented certificates of appreciation to the students and teachers at the District’s annual awards ceremony held at the District’s headquarters.
  • District Selects New Director for Dam and Levee Safety Production Center

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently selected Noah Vroman as the new director of the Dam and Levee Safety Production Center of the Engineering and Construction Division. The Dam and Levee Safety Production Center supports and manages complex dam and levee safety analysis, designs, and modifications in support of the Corps of Engineers Dam and Levee Safety Programs. Mr. Vroman will be responsible for developing and directing the center in the execution of its mission.
  • Grenada Lakes Hosts 22nd Annual Thunder on the Water

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District, the Grenada Lake Association and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host the 22nd Annual Thunder on Water Safe Boating Festival at Grenada Lake. The festival will be held 11–15 June 2014.
  • Corps Celebrates National Fishing and Boating Week

    Vicksburg, Miss…… National Fishing and Boating Week (NFBW) is a national celebration of fishing and boating that coincides with most state's free fishing days. NFBW this year is June 7 - 14, 2014. The best way to celebrate NFBW is to get out on the water! Fishing and boating are some of the best ways to unwind and relieve stress. NFBW is sponsored by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation - http://takemefishing.org/nfbw/ During NFBW, most states offer free fishing days. These are days where anglers are allowed to fish on public bodies of water without a fishing license.
  • Agricultural Land Available for Lease in Grenada County

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is currently accepting sealed bids from individuals or groups that are interested in leasing agricultural land in Grenada County, Mississippi. The tract consists of 26 acres near Grenada Lake, and the Notice of Availability number for this tract is DACW38-9-14-73.
  • Riverton Beach Re-Opens for Summer Visitors

    Vicksburg, Miss…The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will re-open the Riverton Recreation area beach for the summer months prior to the Memorial Day weekend. The 13-acre area recreational area, which is open year round, is located north of Riverton, Louisiana, on the Ouachita River. The swim beach normally operates from mid-May until mid-September. Riverton is the only recreational area with a swim beach within the LFO and on the Ouachita Black River system. Picnic sites, a picnic shelter, playground, boat ramp, and restroom facilities are also available.
  • The Corps Encourages Life Jacket Wear for Boaters and Swimmers

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers always encourages safety for everyone and especially when engaged in water related activities. The Corps is stressing the Wear Your Life Jacket safety message for the Memorial Day weekend by encouraging that you wear life jackets when boating or swimming.
  • Sardis Lake Youth Fishing Rodeo

    Sardis, Miss…… U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Sardis Lake, Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, and First Security Bank of Batesville Mississippi are partnering to host the 26th annual Sardis Lake Youth Fishing Rodeo. It will be held June 7th at Cypress Point Recreation Area. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with the rodeo starting at 7:30 a.m.

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is partnering with the National Safe Boating Council in support of the Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day scheduled for May 16, 2014. The annual event, hosted by the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) serves as a fun, educational element a day prior to the beginning of National Safe Boating Week, May 17-23, the official launch of the 2014 North American Safe Boating Campaign.
