Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Corps’ Vicksburg District Hosts a Blessing of the Fleet (UPDATED)

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) will leave the harbor for its annual revetment season on July 9, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. The District will host a Blessing of the Fleet ceremony on July 9, 2014 at approximately 10:15 A.M. at the Vicksburg City Water Front as the MSU departs. The public is invited to attend the Blessing of the Fleet.
  • Louisiana Field Office to Extend Visitor’s Centers’ Times

    Vicksburg, Miss………The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District’s Grand Ecore Visitor’s Center and the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitor’s Center will have extended operating times for the summer of 2014. Both will be open to the public seven days a week on Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Corps Vicksburg District’s Director of MMC Center Retires

    Vicksburg, Miss…Ronald C. Goldman, director of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Modeling, Mapping and Consequences (MMC) Production Center retired on June 27, 2014. Goldman has had an extraordinary 37 year career. He has been a leader, mentor and friend to many throughout the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the Vicksburg District.
  • Corps Encourages Playing it Safe for Fourth of July

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is encouraging everyone to have fun during the Fourth of July holiday, but most importantly, stay safe.
  • Corps’ Vicksburg District Hosts a Blessing of the Fleet

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) will leave the harbor for its annual revetment season on July 9, 2014. The District will host a Blessing of the Fleet ceremony on July 9, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at City Front as the MSU departs.
  • Corps to Participate in “Get Hooked on Fishing Day”

    Vicksburg, Mississippi……The Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Louisiana Field Office (LFO) will provide a boating and water safety booth at “Get Hooked on Fishing Day” on Saturday, June 28. This 23rd annual event will be held at the Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City, Louisiana, located at Caddo Lake with registration at 7:45 a.m. and the event ending at 12:00 p.m.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts Special Management Archery Deer Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake will host its special management archery deer hunt in October. Dates for the four two-day hunts are October 3-4, 5-6, 17-18, and 19-20, 2014. Applicants must be legal residents of the State of Mississippi and must be at least 16 years old.
  • District Announces Annual Engineer’s Day Awards

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District recently hosted its annual Engineer’s Day Awards ceremony at District Headquarters. Prior to the ceremony, District Commander Col. John W. Cross made remarks regarding the work that the District team accomplishes by stating, “I am in constant awe of the work that you do. A part of my job is to educate the public on what we do. We do above and beyond the works of our regular mission.”
  • Vicksburg District’s James Davis Returns From Afghanistan

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s James Davis has returned from a two-year deployment to Afghanistan in support of Overseas Contingent Operations. He deployed in August 2012 to Afghanistan where he worked as a contracting officer representative and site manager for the Operations and Maintenance Division. He then worked in Engineering and Construction as a construction representative and project engineer the final nine months of his deployment. He was located at Qalaa House, Camp Phoenix, Camp Spann, and Camp Marmal.
  • Four Vicksburg District Engineers Achieve Certification

    Vicksburg, Miss… Four engineers of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District recently completed the strenuous requirements and exam to obtain their Professional Civil Engineer license. Only a licensed engineer may prepare, sign, seal and submit engineering plans and drawings to a public authority for approval, or seal engineering work for public and private clients.
