Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Vicksburg District to Host Local Math Competition

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and the Vicksburg Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers are sponsoring a math competition for local students. The competition will be held 22 January 2014 at District Headquarters, 4155 Clay Street, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
  • Enid Lake Annual Clean Up Day

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will hold the 10th annual Enid Lake clean-up day on 22 February 2014. Volunteers interested in participating in this event can meet at the Enid Lake Field Office, Chickasaw Hill Boat Ramp or Sylva Rena Grocery at 7:00 a.m.
  • Two Vicksburg District Engineers Achieve Licensing

    Vicksburg, Miss… Heather Sibley and Taylor Bradley of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) recently obtained their Professional Civil Engineer license. Only a licensed engineer may prepare, sign, seal and submit engineering plans and drawings to a public authority for approval.
  • Enid Lake Annual Habitat Day

    Vicksburg, Miss….The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s (Corps) Enid Lake’s annual habitat improvement activities will be held on 1 February 2014 at the Enid Lake Field Office beginning at 7:00 a.m. Volunteers should report to the Enid Lake field office located at 264 County Road 39, Enid, Mississippi.
  • Vicksburg District To Host Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…..The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisiana Field Office will host its ninth annual physically challenged deer hunt at the Columbia Lock and Dam. The hunt will be held Saturday 18 January 2014. Eight disabled hunters were randomly selected to hunt on approximately 400 acres adjacent to the lock and dam area located at 580 Lock Office Road, Columbia, Louisiana.
  • Sardis Lake Hosts 32nd Annual Bald Eagle Watch

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will host the 32nd annual Sardis Lake mid-winter bald eagle survey Saturday, 11 January 2014. Volunteers will watch, count and document movement of bald eagles around Sardis Lake. Volunteers should dress appropriately and meet at the Sardis Lake Field Office at 7:00 a.m. for information and instructions.
  • Arkabutla Lake Fish Habitat Day

    Vicksburg, Miss….The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will host the 2014 fish habitat day at Arkabutla Lake on Saturday, 22 February at 7:00 a.m. Volunteers should report to the Arkabutla Lake Field Office located at 3905 Arkabutla Dam Road in Coldwater, Mississippi 38618.
  • Vicksburg District Selects New Senior Civilian Leader

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently selected Vicksburg native, Patricia Hemphill, as the Deputy for Programs and Project Management (DPM). This is the highest civilian position within the Vicksburg District.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts 14th Annual Bald Eagle Watch

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will host the 14th annual Arkabutla Lake mid-winter bald eagle survey, Saturday, 11 January 2013. Volunteers will watch, count and document movement of bald eagles around Arkabutla Lake. Volunteers should dress appropriately and meet at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at 7:00 a.m. for information and instructions.
  • Arkabutla Lake Youth Waterfowl Hunt 2014

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will partner with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) to host the 2014 youth waterfowl hunt. The outdoor event will be held 25 and 26 January and provides an opportunity for experienced hunters to teach the younger generations of hunters the proper techniques and ethics of the waterfowl sport. The hunt will only be open to youth 10 to 15 years of age with all participants required to be accompanied by an adult. Each hunter will be responsible for meeting all age appropriate state and federal waterfowl hunting regulations.
