  • RCEC Visits the Mat Sinking Unit

    VICKSBURG, MISS…A group of tenth grade students from River City Early College High School, part of the Vicksburg Warren School District, had the opportunity to see the Mat Sinking Unit. The group of 36 students, described by Principal Tammy Burris as “motivated with a passion to complete their education early”, are currently working towards a dual credit high school diploma and an associate’s degree through Hinds College.
  • President Trump Appoints Kaiser, Owen to Mississippi River Commission

    VICKSBURG, Mississippi, Nov. 15, 2017 – President Donald Trump recently appointed Maj. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser as the president of the Mississippi River Commission and Col. Paul E. Owen as a member of the commission. Commission appointments are nominated by the President of the U.S. and vetted by the U.S. Senate.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosting its 27th Annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake is hosting its 27th annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt December 7-8, 2017, and December 9-10, 2017. These two-day hunts are the largest hunts of this type in the U.S. which applies to hunters who are quadriplegic, paraplegic, or ambulatory with the use of leg braces or crutches.
  • Vicksburg District waives Day-Use fees on Veterans Day

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 146 Vicksburg District recreational areas on Veterans Day, November 11.
  • Corps Project on Highway 465 to Close Road

    VICKSBURG, MISS… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is set to begin levee improvements on Highway 465 starting near Chotard Landing. All traffic will be closed on the three mile section of road starting September 29, 2017 until December 31, 2017. Concurrently, the Corps will begin paving a three mile section of Mississippi Highway 465, three miles north of Chotard Landing. The paving project will take place within the existing right of way and traffic will be guided by flag men onto one lane. This paving work will begin on October 4, 2017 with completion on December 31, 2017.
  • Corps Waives Day Use Fees at Recreational Areas in Honor of Public Lands Day

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,200 USACE-operated recreational areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on September 30, 2017. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreational areas nationwide will be waived.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.
  • Sardis Lake Hosting 41st Annual Clean-Up Day

    Vicksburg, Miss…Sardis Lake of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and Mugshots of Oxford, Mississippi are partnering to host Sardis Lake’s 41st Annual Clean-Up Day, Saturday September 16, 2017, at Old Sardis Road. Those interested in participating will need to register beginning at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot at the end of Old Sardis Road.
  • Corps Signs Water and Sewer Compliance Project

    VICKSBURG, MISS… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District entered into a Partnership Project Agreement with Mississippi Valley State University, in Leflore County. The signing for the Water and Sewer Compliance Project (Section 592 Program) was held at the District Headquarters Building, on August 30, 2017.
  • Change of Command for Mississippi Valley Division

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Maj. Gen. Michael C. Wehr will transfer command of the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to Maj. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser in a formal change of command ceremony Sept. 7. The ceremony will be officiated by the Corps' Chief of Engineers Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite and will take place at 10 a.m. in the Information Technology Laboratory at the Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg.
