  • DeGray Dam’s Hydropower Unit to be Refurbished

    Vicksburg, Miss…The hydropower generating unit located below the the DeGray Lake Dam will be inoperative for approximately eight months to rebuild and update the system. The hydropower generator went on line in 1973. The hydropower generating system uses the water flow of the Caddo River, through the DeGray Lake Dam to produce eco-friendly, renewable power.
  • District Promotes Engineering to Students

    Vicksburg, Miss… The Vicksburg District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is promoting the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to students in local junior high and high schools during the annual Engineering Week (E-Week). This year, E-Week is being celebrated February 16-22, although activities at the District began about two weeks in advance. A math competition was held at the District with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Porters Chapel Academy, St. Francis and St. Aloysius Catholic schools, Vicksburg and Warren Central Junior High schools.
  • Lake Greeson’s Bear Creek Cycle Trail Clean Up Day

    Vicksburg, Miss…Personnel with Lake Greeson of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and Daisy State Park will host the Bear Creek Cycle Trail Clean Up Day. The Clean Up Day will be held Saturday, 15 February 2014, 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Interested volunteers should meet at the Kirby Landing Marina Pavilion at 8:00 a.m. to sign in and be assigned different areas. Lunch will be served at noon at the Kirby Landing Pavilion.
  • Sardis Lake Fish Habitat Day

    Vicksburg, Miss….The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will host its annual Sardis Lake fish habitat day on Saturday, February 15, and is asking for volunteer assistance to create new fish habitat with stake beds and donated Christmas trees.
  • 2014 Grenada Lake Fish Habitat Day

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will host the 2014 Fish Habitat Day Saturday, 15 February 2014 at Grenada Lake. The date is subject to change if unfavorable weather conditions occur, or if the lake level is too high. Volunteers are asked to report to the Hugh White State Park Lodge Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. The event will consist of volunteers placing stake beds in the lake bottom and coves to create and improve the fish habitat. This year, stake beds will be constructed in the Gibbs Hollow and Wolf Creek areas.
  • Grenada Lake Civil War Re-enactment

    Vicksburg, Miss…. Civil War re-enactors will conduct a winter encampment and living history demonstrations 7 through 9 February 2014 at Grenada Lake. The winter encampment and living history site will be located on highway 333 north of Grenada Lake. The public is invited.
  • Grenada Lake Youth Waterfowl Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Grenada Lake Field Office and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on 1 February 2014. The youth waterfowl hunt will be at the Benwood Waterfowl Management Area and will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger generations proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • Vicksburg District Selects Contracting Chief

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announces the selection of Lynniese Cosey-Mayfield as Chief of the Contracting Office. Cosey-Mayfield has over 26 years of extensive contracting experience which included previous positions with the Aviation Systems Command in St. Louis, Missouri, the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration, both in Washington, D.C. She came to the Vicksburg District in 2002 as a contracting team leader and later served as a branch chief.
  • Vicksburg District Hires Hydraulic Engineers

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District has hired Blake Davis and Justin Giles as hydraulic engineers with the Hydraulics Branch of the Engineering Division.
  • Vicksburg District to Host Local Math Competition

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and the Vicksburg Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers are sponsoring a math competition for local students. The competition will be held 22 January 2014 at District Headquarters, 4155 Clay Street, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
