Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Arkabutla Lake Hosting its Annual Youth Raccoon Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake is hosting its annual Youth Raccoon Hunt January 26-27, 2018, February 2-3, 2018, and February 9-10, 2018 for youth aged 10-15 years. Only two parties will be allowed to hunt per night. The hunt will be administered by both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Northwest Mississippi Raccoon Hunting Association. All hunters will be accompanied by a Corps team member and a member of the Northwest Mississippi Raccoon Hunting Association.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts 18th Annual Eagle Watch

    Vicksburg, Miss…Arkabutla Lake’s 18th Annual Eagle Watch will be held January 20, 2018. Volunteers will watch, count and document movement of bald eagles around Arkabutla Lake. Volunteers will meet at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at 7:00 a.m. and sign volunteer paper work. No pre-registration required.
  • Louisiana Field Office Hosting its 13th Annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisiana Field Office is hosting its 13th annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt January 20, 2018 at the Columbia Lock and Dam. Eight disabled hunters are to be selected to hunt on the approximately 400 acres in the Columbia Lock and Dam area, located at 580 Lock Office Road, Columbia, LA 71418.
  • Mobility Impaired Deer Hunt at Columbia Lock and Dam

    VICKSBURG, MISS… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisiana Field Office is hosting its 13th annual Mobility Impaired Deer Hunt, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Columbia Lock and Dam. Eight disabled hunters will be selected to hunt on the approximately 400 acres of Corps land in the Columbia Lock and Dam area that is normally closed to the public for hunting.
  • Water Safety is a Year Round Concern

    Vicksburg, Miss… Public safety is the number-one priority of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Corps of Engineers urges anyone planning to be on or around water to practice boating and water safety throughout the year. Life jackets save lives and should be worn at all times by anyone in a boat, including those waterfowl hunting or fishing. Statistics show that nearly 90 percent of those who drown were not wearing a life jacket and nearly two-thirds didn’t plan to be in the water.
  • Vicksburg District Receives Small Business HUBZone Award

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The Vicksburg District was recently named the 2017 “Top District” by the Society of American Military Engineers for their Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program. The District was the top district in the Corps with 37.23% in total obligations to HUB Zone Small Business firms.
  • Notice of Sale of Timber at Lake Greeson and DeGray Lake

    Vicksburg, Miss... U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will sell timber at DeGray Lake, Arkansas, to the public. The sections of timber are located in Hot Springs & Pike County and consist of approximately 448 acres in three areas.     VICKSBURG, Miss…For the second consecutive year, the FY 17 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS), has recognized the Vicksburg District as a Best Place to Work within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
  • RCEC Visits the Mat Sinking Unit

    VICKSBURG, MISS…A group of tenth grade students from River City Early College High School, part of the Vicksburg Warren School District, had the opportunity to see the Mat Sinking Unit. The group of 36 students, described by Principal Tammy Burris as “motivated with a passion to complete their education early”, are currently working towards a dual credit high school diploma and an associate’s degree through Hinds College.
  • President Trump Appoints Kaiser, Owen to Mississippi River Commission

    VICKSBURG, Mississippi, Nov. 15, 2017 – President Donald Trump recently appointed Maj. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser as the president of the Mississippi River Commission and Col. Paul E. Owen as a member of the commission. Commission appointments are nominated by the President of the U.S. and vetted by the U.S. Senate.
