Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 22

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 22.
  • Vicksburg District selects chief for the Programs Management Branch

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District has selected Alainna O’Bannon as Chief of its Programs Management Branch of the Programs and Project Management Division.
  • Grenada Lake hosting annual veterans hunts

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Grenada Lake will host its annual Veterans Hunt in two sessions beginning Nov. 16-18, 2018, and ending Nov. 23-25, 2018. The hunts will be held at the Haserway and Quail Management Areas of Grenada Lake.
  • Sardis Lake to temporarily close some sites at Oak Grove Campground

    SARDIS, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sardis Lake is resuming a project that is incrementally adding sewer hookups to all 83 campsites in Oak Grove Campground. The next phase of the project will temporarily close sites 64-70 and is scheduled to begin on Sept. 4, 2018. The other 76 sites in the campground will remain open to the public.
  • Grenada Lake hosts special archery hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Grenada Lake will host a special archery hunt Oct. 1, 2018 through Jan. 31, 2019. The hunt will be held at the south side of Old Highway 8 between 333 Restaurant and Wolf Creek Hollow. The hunters will have the option to use crossbows, compound bows, and traditional archery equipment.
  • Corps schedules public scoping meetings for Mississippi River mainline levees supplemental environmental impact statement

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host four public scoping meetings for the preparation of a supplemental environmental impact statement to address the impacts associated with the construction of remaining authorized work on the Mississippi River mainline levees of the Mississippi River and Tributaries project.
  • Corps’ Vicksburg District releases notice of availability for leasing real property at Arkabutla Lake, Mississippi

    VICKSBURG, Miss.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will lease agricultural lands at Arkabutla Lake, Mississippi, to the public. These properties will be used for pasture, hay and grazed woods purposes and consist of acreage in Tate County, Mississippi.
  • District Hosts Founder’s Day

    VICKSBURG, Miss.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District hosted Founders Day in commemoration of the District’s 145 years of service to the nation. This event celebrates the founding of the Vicksburg district by Capt. William Henry Harrison Benyaurd on August 18, 1879. The Corps of Engineers has maintained a continuous presence in Vicksburg ever since and remains Vicksburg’s second oldest business.
  • Corps’ Vicksburg District Awards Columbia Lock and Dam Contract

    VICKSBURG, Miss.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District has awarded an emergency repair contract to Massman Construction Co. of Leawood, Kansas, for construction and repairs of the Columbia Lock and Dam located on the Ouachita River approximately seven miles upstream of Columbia, Louisiana.
  • Sardis Lake Hosts Fourth Annual Wounded Veterans Fishing Event

    Vicksburg, Miss….The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Sardis Lake Field Office partnered with the Panola County sheriff’s office and local volunteers to host the fourth annual fishing event for wounded veterans. The six participating wounded veterans were treated to dinner by Slick McDonald on July 20, the evening prior to the beginning of the fishing event. On July 21, their day began with a breakfast provided by Jason Chrestman, Lonnie Chrestman and Howard Brower. Following breakfast at 7 a.m., the veterans teamed with volunteer guides Jeremy Aldridge, Stephan Sullivan and Chaney Starnes to begin fishing at Pats Bluff Campground on the scenic waters of Sardis Lake.
