  • Arkabutla Lake Annual Archery Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss… Arkabutla Lake will host its special management archery deer hunt October 7-10, 2016, and October 21-24, 2016. The hunt will consist of two-day hunts with four hunts each day: October 7-8; October 9-10; October 21-22; and October 23-24.
  • Swim area closures for Corps lakes in northern Mississippi

    Vicksburg, Miss…Swimming areas at some of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes in northern Mississippi will be closing soon. Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, and Grenada lakes have begun drawing down water levels as part of their normal flood control operations. Swimming areas at these lakes will be unusable due to cooler season temperatures and lower water levels. These areas typically open each spring and remain open during the summer recreational season, drawing thousands of visitors to each lake.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launches second year of Every Kid in a Park program

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it will continue its support of President Obama’s initiative Every Kid in a Park pass program, which officially begins its second year. Launched last year, the initiative gives fourth grade students and their families free access to federal lands and waters as well as some state parks for a full school year.

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently selected Ryan Reves as its manager for the Dam Safety Program of the geotechnical branch of Engineering and Construction Division.
  • Mississippi River Commission to host public meeting at Natchez waterfront

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The Mississippi River Commission is conducting its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River August 14-19, 2016. August 17 at 2:00 p.m. a public meeting is scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in Natchez, MS so commission members have the opportunity to meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues. Anyone with an interest is invited to present their views and suggestions on matters affecting the water resources infrastructure needs in the valley, including flood control and the Mississippi River and Tributaries project, environmental issues, recreation, navigation and others.
  • Beach Closures at Sardis Lake

    Sardis , MS… . Due to low water conditions, swimming areas on the Lower Lake will be closed beginning August 4, 2016. Boating access will still be allowed on the Lower Lake, however, boaters are reminded to use caution during low water conditions. The water level in the Lower Lake has dropped over three feet since drawdown began on Monday, July 25.
  • Sardis Lake Conducting “De-Water” Inspections

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will begin conducting a “De-Water” inspection at Sardis Lake on August 12, 2016. During this time, the lower lake water level will be drawn down so that necessary inspections can be made in the conduit and outlet channel. The conduit is the oval shaped tunnel that carries water 560 feet from the gatehouse on the upper lake, through the dam, and empties into the outlet channel and the lower lake. The outlet channel area will be closed to fishing and public access until all inspections have been completed.

  • Repair Work Begins on Red River’s Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam (Lock #1) on the Red River will undergo repair work on the cable connections on five of its eleven gates. These repairs are necessary because of failed or failing connections due to the deterioration of the nuts and washers that secure the hoist cables.
