    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District completed the dewatering of the John H. Overton Lock and Dam Nov. 2 on the Red River, located in Alexandria, Louisiana, at river mile 40.8.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Veterans Day

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
  • Vicksburg District to increase releases from Mississippi reservoirs

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will release higher volumes of water from its four flood control reservoirs in the Yazoo Basin – Grenada, Enid, Sardis and Arkabutla – to regain storage capacity ahead of winter and spring rains. The Yazoo Basin reservoirs are being operated per the guidance of the district’s water control manual, which allows for increased releases and higher stages at control points downstream from November through March. The reservoirs are above their average pool stage for this time of year but are currently being drawn down to their respective winter pools, which is standard operating procedure for this time of year.
  • Vicksburg District reaffirms partnership agreement with Beechwood Elementary

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District signed a partnership agreement with Beechwood Elementary Nov. 4 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The agreement reaffirmed Beechwood Elementary as Vicksburg District’s adopt-a-school partner for the 2019-2020 school year. Annually, the district participates in an adopt-a-school program with local schools to inspire future leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics; enhance local understanding of the USACE mission; and encourage community outreach participation from USACE employees.
  • Grenada Lake hosts youth deer hunt

    GRENADA, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake will host its third annual youth deer hunt Dec. 21-22 and Dec. 28-29. Registration begins Nov. 18 and ends Nov. 22. Hunters may register in person at the Grenada Lake Field Office. For more information, please contact the field office at 662-226-5911. To be eligible for participation, youth hunters must be between the ages of eight and 15 and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Youth hunters may harvest a maximum of one buck and two does during the hunt.
  • Vicksburg District Constructs Interpretive Visitor Center, Field Office at DeGray Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District began construction in late August 2019 on a site for a new interpretive visitor center and field office at DeGray Lake near Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Plans for the site, which is located at the Lakeview Area on the southeast section of the lake, include: 1) a building that will house a visitor center and field office, 2) a scenic overlook structure that will provide visitors with a view of DeGray Lake and 3) additional modern day-use facilities, including picnic areas.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers identifies short-term natural disaster recovery activities funded by the Additional Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Act, 2019

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today work that will be accomplished with the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies, Operation and Maintenance, and Mississippi River and Tributaries account funding provided for emergency recovery efforts in the Additional Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Act, 2019, Public Law 116-20. The act was signed into law, June 6, 2019.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake Field Office announced today that the lake will host archery-specific hunting opportunities during the 2019-2020 hunting season.
  • Vicksburg District Holds Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony, Begins Revetment Season

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District held a “Blessing of the Fleet” ceremony Sept. 4 to commemorate the deployment of the district’s Mat Sinking Unit and the official start of revetment season. The ceremony was held at the Vicksburg District Harbor and included blessings from USACE Chaplain Col. Bradford Baumann, Rev. Sam Godfrey of Christ Episcopal Church and Rev. Carl Young, a crew member on the Mat Sinking Unit. Members of the Memphis District revetment team and representatives of the Mississippi Valley Division were also in attendance. District leadership, including Commander Col. Robert Hilliard and Chief of Operations Julie Vignes, spoke at the ceremony and emphasized the importance of the unit’s work.
