  • Mississippi River Commission to bring public hearings to riverside communities this spring

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The Mississippi River Commission will take its mission to riverside communities this spring, hosting four public hearings as part of its 2026 High-Water Inspection trip and public hearings, March 23 - 27. The hearings, which are held onboard the Motor Vessel Mississippi at stops along the river, give residents, stakeholders, and local community members an opportunity to voice their views, share ideas about challenges facing the river system as well as engage with Commission members.

    WASHINGTON – Today, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam R. Telle announced a major initiative, “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,” for the Army’s Civil Works program. “Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork” will provide greater focus on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) core Civil Works missions, while minimizing non-core programs, direct funding to priority water resources projects that will provide the greatest benefits to the nation, shorten permitting timelines, and reduce or eliminate extraneous regulations and paperwork that slow USACE’s delivery of Civil Works projects and programs.

    VICKSBURG, Miss – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District held a christening ceremony on Feb. 4 to officially welcome a new floating plant crew boat to its fleet.

  • USACE Emergency Power Team Installs First Power Generator in New Albany, Mississippi

    VICKSBURG, Miss – Working in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and local partners, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) crews are installing emergency power generators to support Mississippi communities impacted by the January 2026 winter storm. Shortly after midnight, USACE Temporary Emergency Power Planning and Response Team (PRT) members and contracted crews completed the first installation of an emergency power generator at a warming shelter and emergency services facility in New Albany, Mississippi.

    VICKSBURG, Miss – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is repositioning an Emergency Power Planning and Response Team (PRT) to support the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) in response to recent emergency conditions caused by the January 2026 Winter Storm. "Our communities throughout the country are experiencing major hardship from Winter Storm Fern and many Americans are unfortunately without power. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are supporting each state’s efforts to get all critical infrastructure back online as fast as possible, and the Corps won’t stop working for our communities until the job is complete,” said Adam Telle, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
