Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Red River Waterway Presents Annual Water Resource Festival

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the Red River Waterway Commission and other partners, are hosting the 10th Annual Red River Water Resource Festival May 8-9, 2015. The two-day festival begins at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8th, with safe summer presentations for approximately 500 5th-7th graders from Caddo, Bossier, and Webster parishes.
  • Corps of Engineers releases final Mississippi River Resource Assessment report

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 21, 2015 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) today released the Final Assessment Report of the Lower Mississippi River Resource Assessment. This report addresses habitat, recreation and information needs on the Lower Mississippi River.

    Henry A. Dulaney, chief of Engineering and Construction Division of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, has been named a Fellow by the National Board of Direction of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
  • Bayou Bodcau Hosting 2nd Annual Patriot’s Day

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Bayou Bodcau is hosting its second annual Patriot’s Day. This family oriented activity is scheduled for April 18, 2015, 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Ivan Lake, Cotton Valley, Louisiana.
  • Vicksburg District Announces Chief of Evaluation Section of Regulatory Branch

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently announced the selection of Randy Holder as chief of its evaluation section of the regulatory branch of Operations Division. In this position, Holder will be responsible for the supervision of an interdisciplinary team tasked with the oversight, development, and issuance of standard permits, letters of permission, mitigation banks, and cultural resource reviews.
  • District Announces Chief of Permit Section of Regulatory Branch

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently announced the selection of Cori Carraway as chief of the permit section of the regulatory branch of Operations Division. Carraway will be responsible for the supervision of an interdisciplinary team tasked with the oversight, development, and issuance of nationwide permits, regional general permits, and compliance.
  • District names new manager for Corps’ Arkansas Lakes

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently named Rick Dwyer as its manager for three Arkansas Corps lakes including DeGray, Greeson and Lake Ouachita. Dwyer will be responsible for managing the three Arkansas Corps lakes with each of their hydropower plants, and 114,183 acres of public lands with 49 recreational areas. He will also manage a combined staff of 188 Corps and contract employees with an average budget of approximately $19 million.
  • Mississippi River Commission schedules high-water inspection trip

    VICKSBURG, Miss., March 23, 2015 -- The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River March 23-27, 2015.
  • Sardis Lake Hosting Public Meeting on Project Master Plan

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sardis Lake Field Office has scheduled a public meeting regarding the update of the Project Master Plan. The meeting will be held April 2, 2015, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Oxford National Guard Armory located on Ed Perry Boulevard, next to the Oxford Convention Center.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosting Public Meeting on Project Master Plan

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake Field Office has rescheduled the public meeting regarding the update of the Project Master Plan. The meeting will be held March 23, 2015, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Arkabutla Lake Field office, 5500 Arkabutla Dam Road, Hernando, Mississippi 38632.
