Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • USACE Vicksburg District announces changes in campground fees for North MS Lakes

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announces that beginning May 1, 2025, new fee rates will go into effect for selected campgrounds at Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, and Grenada Lakes. On May 1, rates for all Class A campgrounds with full hookups (water, sewer, electric) will increase from $24 to $30 per night.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces Youth Waterfowl Hunt at Sardis Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Sardis Lake and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will hold a youth waterfowl hunt on February 8, 2025, at the Sardis Waterfowl Refuge. This hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced hunters to teach younger generations of hunters the proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • USACE Vicksburg District’s Arkabutla Lake accepting applications for Youth Squirrel Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Arkabutla Lake will hold a youth squirrel hunt on January 11-12, 2025, and January 18-19, 2025, in the management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The youth squirrel hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced small game hunters to educate younger generations of hunters on proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • USACE VICKSBURG DISTRICT ANNOUNCES YOUTH HUNT AT SARDIS LAKE

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Sardis Lake will host a youth deer hunt on November 15-17, 2024 at the Sardis Waterfowl Refuge and Graham Lake Refuge. Youth hunts provide opportunities for younger hunters to experience the outdoors and learn hunting ethics and conservation from experienced hunters.
  • USACE waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of National Public Lands Day

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will waive day use fees at recreation areas nationwide in observance of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 28, 2024.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces Youth Waterfowl Hunt at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Arkabutla Lake and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will hold a youth waterfowl hunt on January 25, 2025, and February 8, 2025, in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The Youth Waterfowl Hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger generations of hunters the proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces new Resource Management Chief

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has selected Cheryl Boyd as chief of the Resource Management Division. The Resource Management Division is responsible for all district level financial management activities and offers professional financial advice, guidance, and policy interpretations while ensuring the implementation of procedural controls, processing of reports and meticulous review of delegated fiscal responsibilities. Resource Management encompasses key branches: Finance and Accounting Branch and Budget, Manpower, and Management Branch.
  • UPDATE: Interim Repairs near completion at Arkabutla Dam; Study underway for long-term solutions

    Vicksburg, Miss – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (USACE-MVK) continues to advance interim risk reduction measures (IRRM) at Arkabutla Dam in Northwest Mississippi that are scheduled to be completed by late September 2024. These measures include adding piezometers to increase real-time monitoring of groundwater pressure and installing relief wells to relieve water pressure and to allow excess water to be diverted safely.
  • Lake Greeson Shoreline Cleanup Scheduled for September 14, 2024

    Murfreesboro, Ark. – The Lake Greeson Shoreline Cleanup is set to take place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Kirby Landing Marina Pavilion. This community-focused event aims to enhance the beauty and health of Lake Greeson’s shoreline through collaborative volunteer efforts.
  • Columbia Pool boat ramps closed due to three foot draw down on Ouachita River

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Seven Corps of Engineers managed boat ramps on the Ouachita River have been closed due to a recent three foot draw down on the Ouachita River above the Columbia Lock and Dam, located approximately seven miles upstream of Columbia, LA.
