Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Army Corps of Engineers warns most water-related accidents and fatalities occur in July

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reminding the public that more water-related accidents and fatalities occur at its lakes and river projects in July than in any other month. “July is the month when we normally see the most water-related accidents and fatalities so there is reason to be concerned,” said Pam Doty, USACE National Water Safety program manager. “We stress to the recreating public a number of things to be aware of while in, on, or near open water.”
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces new Regulatory Chief

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces the selection of Kristina “Kristi” Hall as the new Regulatory Division chief. The mission of the USACE Regulatory Program is to protect the Nation's aquatic resources, while allowing reasonable development through fair, flexible, and balanced permit decisions. In her new position, Hall will oversee and manage the actions and requests that are submitted regarding the waters or wetlands within the district’s area of responsibility, as well as maintain the mitigation program to offset the losses to the aquatic environment.
  • USACE Vicksburg District holds Change of Command Ceremony

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Col. Robert A. Hilliard transferred command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District to Col. Christopher D. Klein in a formal change of command ceremony at district headquarters in Vicksburg, Mississippi, today.
  • UPDATE to Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam closure schedule

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close Lindy C. Boggs, Lock and Dam (L&D) to navigation on the Red River during two separate periods, Aug. 30–Sept. 28 to dewater the upstream gate and Oct. 14–Nov. 12 to dewater the downstream gate.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District recognized recent retiree Kent Parrish at its annual Engineers Day awards ceremony on Wednesday.
  • USACE Vicksburg District recognizes personnel achievements at Engineers Day

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District recognized personnel excellence with its annual Engineers Day awards ceremony at district headquarters yesterday. Employees received a variety of honorary individual and team awards. The hybrid ceremony allowed field office personnel across the district’s area of responsibility to participate.
  • USACE Vicksburg District signs water system rehabilitation agreement with City of Brandon

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District entered into a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the City of Brandon, Mississippi, as part of the Mississippi Environmental Infrastructure Program (Section 592) today.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will close road and foot traffic access to Wallace Dam starting today.
  • The Vicksburg District's Dredge Vessel Jadwin departs for the 2022 Dredging Season

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – On May 10, 2022, the Dredge Jadwin, with a crew of around 50 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District team members, departed the Vicksburg Harbor for its annual dredging season along the Mississippi River.
  • USACE Vicksburg District to close Lindy C. Boggs Lock and Dam

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close Lindy C. Boggs, Lock and Dam (L&D) to navigation on the Red River during two separate periods, Aug. 15 – Sept. 15 to dewater the upper gate and Oct. 1 – 30 to dewater the lower gate. The lock will temporarily reopen on approximately Sept. 16 and remain open for 15 days to allow traffic to pass. During the dewatering’s of the upper and lower gate bays, the district will make repairs, inspect the structure, and plan for future maintenance.
