  • Vicksburg District’s Project Manager Returns From Afghanistan

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District’s Mike Renacker has recently returned from ten months of deployment to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan.
  • 2014 Arkabutla Lake Youth Raccoon Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District (Corps) will host the 19th annual Arkabutla Lake youth raccoon hunt. These hunts will take place on 31 January, 1 February, 7 and 8 February and 14 and 15 February. All applications to participate must be received at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office by 4:30 p. m on Thursday, 16 January 2014.
  • Corps to Host 2013 Wounded Warriors Project Deer Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…..The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District will host their second Wounded Warriors’ Deer Hunt on Saturday, 7 December, at the Louisiana Field Office (LFO) recreational area near Columbia. Participants include Purple Heart recipients and disabled soldiers.
  • Notice of Availability Of Leased Lands near Arkabutla and Grenada Lakes

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is offering agricultural lands for lease to the public. These sections of agricultural lands consist of two tracts in Yalabusha County, one tract in Grenada County on Grenada Lake and one tract in Desoto County on Arkabutla Lake in Mississippi
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss….The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will hold its annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt on December 6 through 9, 2013. There will be two separate hunts with each lasting two days on December 6 and 7 and December 8 and 9. Participants of this special hunt are quadriplegic, paraplegic, use leg braces or crutches.
  • Corps’ Fraud Investigation Unit Starts Fiscal Year 2014 with a Bang

    Vicksburg, Miss……The Corps of Engineers Federal Employees Compensation Act (FECA) Fraud Investigation Unit (FIU) has gotten off to a great start in fiscal year 2014 by saving taxpayers over $3.9 million dollars in workers’ compensation costs. The savings, realized the first month of the new fiscal year, were the result of investigative efforts that uncovered several inaccurate or false claims.
  • Pearl River Lock Repairs Nearing Early Completion

    Vicksburg, Miss… – Repairs to the Pearl River Navigational Canal Lock #2 are expected to be completed ahead of schedule by November 20, 2013. The repair work included backfilling the erosion damages to the east bank along the lock chamber, installing a concrete ditch slope drain, turfing, and repairing the damaged security fence.
  • Dredge Jadwin returns to Vicksburg District

    Vicksburg, Miss…The Dredge Jadwin recently returned to her home port of Vicksburg from the 2013 dredging season after 150 days in action. The Jadwin and crew relocated approximately 6.5 million cubic yards of sand and mud from the river channel of the mighty Mississippi River. The Jadwin was one of the the last two steam-powered dredges built by the Mississippi River Commission and specifically designed for dredging on the Mississippi River. The Jadwin is also celebrating her 80th birthday.
  • Corps’ Mat Sinking Season Progresses

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) is currently working within the Corps’ Memphis District boundaries laying articulated concrete mats (ACM) on the Mississippi River’s banks. The ACM assists with the prevention of erosion and protects submerged riverbank areas. The MSU has completed approximately 34 percent of the 2013 scheduled work with over 106,000 squares of ACM laid.
  • Vicksburg District Team Member Receives Award

    Vicksburg, Miss……Brad Brady, civil engineer with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, was presented the Commander’s Special Emphasis Award for his selfless service, dedication, and exceptional achievement in the performance of assigned duties in support of the Global War on Terrorism. The award was presented by Brigadier General Peter A. DeLuca, Commander of the Mississippi Valley Division, and Colonel John Cross, Commander of the Vicksburg District.
