  • Vicksburg District to host Meet the District event

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host its inaugural Meet the District Open House event March 26 at the district headquarters building in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The event will provide large and small business representatives; university, community college and vocational school administrators; political and community leaders; and members of the public with the opportunity to learn about the district’s mission as well as its career and businesses opportunities. Attendees will be able to network with key district staff members and subject matter experts as well as potential partners in the public and private sectors.

  • Vicksburg District provides updated forecast for region - March 6

    VICKSBURG, Miss. - The National Weather Service has forecasted two-to-three inches of rainfall near the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers over the next seven days. The northern half the Vicksburg District's jurisdiction is predicted to receive one-to-one-and-a-quarter inch of rain while the southern half is predicted to receive one-quarter-to-one inch of rain.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District opened the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure, located approximately 10 miles north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, March 3.

  • Vicksburg District provides updated forecast for region - Feb. 27

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The National Weather Service has forecasted heavy rainfall over the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers that may impact river forecasts across the region within the next week. Current projections indicate that stages on the main stem of the Mississippi River will remain relatively stable, but these projections will change based on future rainfall.

  • Vicksburg District provides updated forecast for region - Feb. 25

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The Mississippi River is expected to crest at Arkansas City, Arkansas, at 39.5 feet Feb. 28; Greenville, Mississippi, at 51.3 feet Feb. 28; Vicksburg, Mississippi, at 47.8 feet Feb. 29; and Natchez, Mississippi, at 55 feet March 1. These projections are based on two days of forecasted rainfall and will changed based on future rainfall.

  • Vicksburg District announces updates to online inundation mapping viewer

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announced Feb. 24 that its online viewer for inundation mapping has been updated to include new forecast information and additional areas in the district’s jurisdiction.

  • Work Plan increases Vicksburg District funding for fiscal year 2020

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has announced that its Work Plan for the 2020 fiscal year includes $102 million in funding for its civil works program, the largest amount of funding since the 2013 fiscal year. The Work Plan will fund projects, programs and activities that received funding in the three previous fiscal years and will prioritize ongoing work that can reach significant milestones or produce significant outputs during the 2020 fiscal year.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The National Weather Service has forecasted two-to-four inches of rain across most of the Lower Mississippi River Valley over the next seven days. The Mississippi River is expected to crest at Arkansas City, Arkansas, at 39 feet Feb. 25; Greenville, Mississippi, at 50.5 feet Feb. 26; Vicksburg, Mississippi, at 47 feet Feb. 27; and Natchez, Mississippi, at 54.5 feet Feb. 29. These projections are based on two days of forecasted rainfall and will change based on future rainfall.

  • Sardis, Grenada lakes cancel Fish Habitat Day events due to high water

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Sardis and Grenada lakes have canceled their Fish Habitat Day events scheduled for Feb. 22 and 29, respectively. The events have been canceled due to increased lake elevations from recent rainfall. Flood control structures at Sardis, Grenada and Enid lakes, three of the district’s four flood control reservoirs in the Yazoo Basin, were closed Feb. 10 to store excess rainfall, or runoff. The reservoirs’ gates are expected to open within the next three-to-five days.

  • Enid Lake announces annual Cleanup Day event

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Enid Lake and the Enid Lake Volunteers for Waste Management will hold the lake’s annual Cleanup Day event Feb. 22, which will provide volunteers an opportunity to help maintain the beauty of the lake.
