  • Mississippi River Commission low water inspection trip and public hearings canceled

    Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the region, the Mississippi River Commission has canceled its annual low water inspection trip and public hearings on board the MV Mississippi, scheduled for Aug. 23–27, 2021. The health and safety of our people and communities remains our priority.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has selected Jason Mooney as Chief of Project Resources Management Branch (PRMB).
  • Mississippi River Commission cancels Upper Mississippi River portion of low water inspection trip but still plans to conduct Lower Mississippi River portion

    Due to the rising cases of COVID, the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) has canceled the Upper Mississippi River portion of its annual low water inspection trip on board the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI, which was scheduled for August 15-20, 2021. The health and safety for people is a priority during this critical time in our nation. The MRC still intends to conduct the Lower Mississippi River portion of the low water inspection trip and public hearings scheduled for August 22-27, 2021. Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in select towns along the river.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces that Arkabutla Lake will hold its annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt this December. There will be two hunts, each lasting three days, on December 3 to 5 and December 10 to 12. Applications are available at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office. The deadline for receiving applications is November 5 at 3 p.m. Applicants will be notified on the second week of November if they have been selected for either hunt.
  • USACE Vicksburg District awards $9.1 million emergency contract for Natchez National Cemetery stabilization project

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District recently awarded a $9.1 million emergency contract for a stabilization project at Natchez National Cemetery. District leadership worked with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and city officials to expedite the project after high levels of erosion were discovered in the south and west reaches of the property. This effort will secure the integrity of the cemetery’s bluff from significant erosion incidents in the future to allow the cemetery to remain open for years to come.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces fall archery hunts at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces the dates for its fall archery draw hunts at Arkabutla Lake. Four separate hunts held in October and November with each hunt lasting two days. The dates for the hunts will be October 22 to 23, October 24 to 25, October 29 to 30 and October 31 to November 1.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces posted restrictions concerning the commercial use of Corps Campsites

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District is announcing the posting of additional restrictions regarding the commercial rental of campsites in Corps operated campgrounds through the Reservation One Stop (R1S) reservation system.
  • USACE Vicksburg District holds Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony, begins revetment season

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District held a “Blessing of the Fleet” ceremony July 12 to commemorate the deployment of the district’s Mat Sinking Unit and the official start of revetment season.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces closure to Arkabutla Intake Gates

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces that they will close the intake gates at Arkabutla Dam for a brief time beginning July 23rd. This closure will take place so that routinely scheduled inspections can be completed inside the outlet tunnel and during that time no water will be flowing through the outlet channel. The closure is expected to last less than one week and will have a minimal impact to recreation in the area. One small parking lot adjacent to the outlet channel will be closed during the event.
  • USACE Vicksburg District announces new chief of OCIO/G-6

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has selected Michael Stucky as chief of OCIO/G-6, formerly known as ACE-IT. In this role, Stucky will provide guidance for a range of information management and information technology services that support district operations, communication and internal security.
