The USACE Vicksburg District owns and operates more than 100 recreation areas across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana where millions of visitors enjoy fishing, camping, hunting, boating, hiking, swimming, geocaching, and more every year. The district’s 10 flood-control reservoirs across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana provide numerous benefits to the region, including flood risk management, hydropower, water supply, wildlife management, and recreation.

  • 11th Annual Army Corps of Engineers Hunt with the Mobility Impaired

    Vicksburg, Miss…… The 11th Annual Army Corps of Engineers Mobility Impaired Hunt will be Jan. 9, 2015 at Columbia Lock and Dam in Columbia, Louisiana. The hunt will start with a safety briefing at 4:30 a.m. before going to the stands.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts Youth Waterfowl Draw Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…Arkabutla Lake of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on January 30-31, 2016 in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The Youth Waterfowl Hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger hunters proper techniques and ethics of the sport.
  • Reduced Operating Hours at Two Ouachita River Locks

    Vicksburg, Miss……Reduced operating hours at H.K. Thatcher and Felsenthal locks go into effect this week. The new hours of operation are 5 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The U.S Army Corps of Engineers took this step due to the lack of commercial traffic at the two locks. During the past year, no commercial vessels have passed through H.K. Thatcher lock. Only six commercial vessels passed through Felsenthal lock in 2015.
  • Southeast Arkansas Feasibility Study Moves Forward

    Vicksburg, Miss……A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study to help alleviate flooding, water shortages, and environmental impacts in southeast Arkansas and northeast Louisiana took a great step forward last week. The study had been on hold due to funding issues.
  • Agriculture Lands near Lake Ouachita Available to Lease

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is offering agricultural lands for lease to the public. There are 12 tracts of agricultural lands in Garland and Montgomery County, Arkansas, and the properties will be leased for pasture, hay and grazed woods.
  • Vicksburg District waives Day-Use fees on Veterans Day

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 146 Vicksburg District recreational areas on Veterans Day, November 11.
  • Grenada Lake Completes Periodic Inspection

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake has completed its periodic inspection of the Granada Lake Dam. The outlet works flood gates are scheduled to be re-opened on October 17, 2015.
  • Volunteers Needed for Arkabutla Lake’s 25th Annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking volunteers for its annual physically challenged deer hunt at Arkabutla Lake. This year’s hunt will be the 25th anniversary for this special hunt, to be held December 4-5, 2015, and December 6-7, 2015, with each hunt lasting two days. This hunt requires volunteers to assist individuals who are quadriplegic, paraplegic or ambulatory with the use of leg braces or crutches.
  • Sardis Lake Celebrates 75th Anniversary

    Sardis, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sardis Lake Field Office’s staff invites the public to attend its commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Sardis Lake. The ceremony will be held October 7, 2015, 11:00 a.m. until noon, at the Arty Tapp Overlook at Sardis Dam.
  • Grenada Lake Begins Preparations for Periodic Inspection

    Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake is scheduled to begin its preparations for a periodic inspection of the Granada Lake Dam. The outlet works flood gates are scheduled to be closed and dewatering of the gate will begin on September 26, 2015. The gate closures and dewatering of the outlet works is being done in preparation for the upcoming inspection scheduled to be performed on October 8, 2015.
