    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District closed the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure, located approximately 10 miles north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and provided an update on forecasts and conditions across the district’s jurisdiction March 30.
  • Vicksburg District provides update on forecasts, conditions across region – March 27

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District provided an update on forecasts and conditions across the district’s jurisdiction March 27. The National Weather Service has forecasted an average of one-to-four inches of rainfall over the Lower Mississippi River Valley over the next seven days. The Mississippi River is expected to crest at Arkansas City, Arkansas, at 40 feet April 5; Greenville, Mississippi, at 51.5 feet April 6; Vicksburg, Mississippi, at 48 feet April 7; and Natchez, Mississippi, at 55 feet April 8. These predictions are based on two days of forecasted rainfall and may change based on future rainfall.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close its visitor centers, interpretive centers, field offices and select recreation site attractions across Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas to the public beginning March 19.
  • Vicksburg District to temporarily close Jesse Brent Lower Mississippi River Museum

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close the Jesse Brent Lower Mississippi River Museum in downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi, beginning March 17 at 4 p.m. CDT. The museum’s closure is due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) concern and recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and USACE guidance to avoid large gatherings of people. As of 8 a.m. CDT March 17, 12 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed in Mississippi.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Enid Lake and the Enid Lake Volunteers for Waste Management held the lake’s annual Cleanup Day event Feb. 22, which provided volunteers an opportunity to help maintain the beauty of the lake.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host its inaugural Meet the District Open House event March 26 at the district headquarters building in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The event will provide large and small business representatives; university, community college and vocational school administrators; political and community leaders; and members of the public with the opportunity to learn about the district’s mission as well as its career and businesses opportunities. Attendees will be able to network with key district staff members and subject matter experts as well as potential partners in the public and private sectors.
