  • New lifetime pass available for Military Veterans and Gold Star Families to access public lands

    WASHINGTON – The Biden-Harris administration announced that starting on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and Gold Star Families can obtain a free lifetime pass to thousands of federal recreation sites spread out across more than 400 million acres of public lands, including national parks, wildlife refuges, and forests. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be participating in the new pass program. “The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and our federal teammates are proud to honor our veterans with free lifetime access to more than 2,500 federal recreation areas across the nation,” said Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general. “This is a small token of appreciation for veterans who have bravely dedicated their lives to defending our freedom.”
  • Vicksburg District reminds recreation site visitors to take precautions for a safe Fourth of July weekend

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District reminds recreation site visitors across Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana to practice safety throughout the Fourth of July weekend. Recreation sites across the region will host special events during the holiday weekend. In Arkansas, fireworks shows will be held at Lake Ouachita July 3 and 4 and Lake Greeson July 3. In Mississippi, a fireworks show will be held at Sardis Lake July 4.

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will reopen select beaches and recreation areas at its Mississippi lakes – Arkabutla Lake, Sardis Lake, Enid Lake and Grenada Lake – and incorporate preventative health measures beginning July 6.
  • Vicksburg District Closes Arkabutla, Sardis Lake Recreation Areas Due to Storm Damage

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announced that select recreation areas at Arkabutla Lake, located approximately 35 miles north of Marks, Mississippi, and Sardis Lake, located approximately 90 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee, have been closed due to damage from severe weather over the weekend.
