  • UPDATE: Notice to Proceed issued on Interim Repairs at Arkabutla Dam

    Vicksburg, Miss – Interim risk reduction measures continue at Arkabutla Dam, located in DeSoto and Tate Counties in Northwest Mississippi. On February 27, a contract was awarded to Frontier Services, Inc. for the installation of six relief wells with lateral discharges, installation of additional piezometers (groundwater monitoring devices), and automation of the monitoring system at the dam.
  • UPDATE: Arkabutla Dam Emergency: Lake levels drop below 204 feet

    Vicksburg, Miss – Lake levels at Arkabutla Dam dropped below 204’ to 203.77 at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, 22 FEB. which greatly decreases the potential of a breach situation. Lake levels at Arkabutla Dam, located in DeSoto and Tate Counties in Northwest Mississippi, can fluctuate quickly especially during the rainy season. The target lake level is below 210’ and the district is proactively working to keep the level at approximately 204’ which provides leeway in the pool level during the wet season.
  • Arkabutla Lake Highlights Access Points during low water

    Vicksburg, Miss. – Arkabutla Lake has experienced low water conditions since the Emergency Action Plan for Arkabutla Dam was activated in early May due to issues identified on the dam. The lake will continue to see lower than normal water levels for the foreseeable future until repairs are completed. As the lake level was lowered, most of the traditional water access points became unusable and have remained that way. Currently the only consistent water access point is via a gravel ramp at Hwy. 51 Landing. Boaters, including non-powered vessel users such as kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards must continue to abide by mandatory Personal Flotation Device (lifejacket) wear rules.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District determined that Arkabutla Dam, in Arkabutla, Mississippi, is stable at the current low lake elevation as of June 12, 2023 and has downgraded the WATCH condition at Arkabutla Dam in DeSoto and Tate Counties, Mississippi to ALERT.

  • USACE Vicksburg District announces closure to section of roadway at Arkabutla Dam

    VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has made a closure to a small section of road along the bottom of Arkabutla Dam. The closure affects the only the section of roadway above the outlet tunnel. The closure will not affect the remainder of the road across the bottom of the dam, the road across the top of the dam, or either side of the outlet channel recreation area. Visitors traveling north along Arkabutla Dam Road/MS Hwy. 301 will need to take the road across the top of Arkabutla Dam.

    Vicksburg, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District at Arkabutla Lake will hold a youth squirrel hunt on Jan. 14-15 and January 21-22, 2023 in the management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. Applications may be mailed, emailed or completed at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office, and returned to the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at:  3905 Arkabutla Dam Rd.  Coldwater, MS  38618.
