District Names Manager for Dam Safety Program

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees. VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently selected Ryan Reves as its manager for the Dam Safety Program of the geotechnical branch of Engineering and Construction Division. 

     In this position, Reves will provide expert technical guidance and assistance in all aspects of dam safety while serving as the point of contact for the Vicksburg District concerning dam safety matters. This includes technical functions involving programs for field reconnaissance and preparation and review of design, plans, and specifications. He will also be responsible for technically reviewing all design memorandums, plans and specifications, and cost estimates for proposed construction and/or modification of any major flood control dams within the District.  

     Prior to this selection, he served as the geotechnical representative on multiple flood fighting campaigns. Reves has held several key roles including serving as lead facilitator performing initial screening-level risk assessments for the Levee Safety Program as well as overseeing the District’s Operational Condition Assessment program. While working in the geotechnical branch, he provided dam safety training to project staff and conducted tabletop exercises involving emergency management personnel. 

     Reves began his career with the Corps in 2010 as a civil engineer in the inspection and dam safety section of the geotechnical branch of Engineering and Construction Division. 

     A native of Grenada, Reves is a graduate of Starkville Academy. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University, is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Mississippi. 

     He is engaged to be married to MacKenzie Snuggs of Carthage.
