Arkabutla Lake Physically Challenged Deer Hunt Registration Opens

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees. VICKSBURG, Miss…The annual physically challenged deer hunt at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake will be held December 4-5, 2015, and December 6-7, 2015, with each hunt lasting two days.

Applicants must be quadriplegic, paraplegic or ambulatory with the use of leg braces or crutches. Applications are available now at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office. The deadline for receiving applications is August 28, 2015, 3:00 p.m. A public drawing will be held on September 9, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at pavilion #734 in the South Abutment Day Use Area.

Although the primary mission of Arkabutla Lake is flood damage risk reduction, approximately 855,000 individuals visit Arkabutla Lake annually to enjoy the camping, playgrounds, swimming areas, several types of trails, fishing, boat ramps and marinas. The lake traffic brings approximately $14,000,000 annually to the local economy and supports almost 250 jobs. Arkabutla Lake is one of the four lakes in Mississippi maintained and operated by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District.
