Vicksburg, Miss…… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting the Red River All-American Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 6, 2015, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at John H. Overton Lock & Dam #2, Poland Recreation Area, 2839 Hwy 457, Alexandria, Louisiana, 71302, (towards Marksville, Louisiana).

The Red River All-American Fishing Derby will be celebrating National Fishing and Boating week and the Louisiana free fishing weekend. A fishing license is not required and everyone is invited. This fun family event is free and open to the public of all ages. The goal is to promote fishing as an alternative leisure activity and to provide educational elements such as water safety, fish identification, and angler ethics.

An experienced fisherman will be on site to assist newcomers to fishing. Free bait (night crawlers) will be provided. At noon, there will be free hot-dogs and cold drinks, and prizes for the winners of the fishing tournament and the casting contest. We recommend that visitors bring water, sunscreen, and lawn chairs.
