Corps to Participate in “Get Hooked on Fishing Day”

Vicksburg, Mississippi……The Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Louisiana Field Office (LFO) will provide a boating and water safety booth at “Get Hooked on Fishing Day” on Saturday, June 28. This 23rd annual event will be held at the Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City, Louisiana, located at Caddo Lake with registration at 7:45 a.m. and the event ending at 12:00 p.m.

The LFO’s natural resource specialists from the Bayou Bodcau Dam and Reservoir office will provide demonstrations of a simulated boating accident and of proper life jacket fittings. They will be available to answer questions about boating and water safety and to give away various items to participants.

The event is presented by the Parish of Caddo Parks and Recreation, with sponsors being the Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol, Caddo Parish Fire Department District 7, and others. Highlights of the event will be an educational fishing clinic with stations that feature fish identification and biology, casting, boating safety, environmental education, and pier fishing.

The Vicksburg District manages thousands of acres that offer an array of recreational opportunities to include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming and photography. The Louisiana Field Office of the Corps encompasses over 200 miles along the Ouachita River from Camden, Arkansas, to Jonesville, Louisiana, containing 24 parks and boat ramps. This includes Bayou Bodcau Dam, Wallace Lake, Caddo Lake, 10 recreation areas on the Red River, Grand Ecore Visitor Center, and J. Bennett Johnston Waterways Regional Visitor Center.
