Vicksburg District Honors Local STEM Students and Teachers

Vicksburg, Miss……The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District recently commended local high school students and teachers from area schools that excelled in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) during the past school year.

Colonel John W. Cross, Commander of the Vicksburg District, presented certificates of appreciation to the students and teachers at the District’s annual awards ceremony held at the District’s headquarters.

Jordan Locke, Porter’s Chapel Academy; Trevor Talbot, Vicksburg High School; and Mattea Mobley, Warren Central High School, were nominated by their respective principals to be recognized by the Vicksburg District as students that excelled in STEM courses during the 2013-2014 school term.

Cassandra Farrish, Vicksburg High School; Terry Wong, Warren Central High School; and Frances Warren, Porter’s Chapel Academy, were also nominated by their respective principals as teachers that provided leadership and excelled in teaching the STEM courses and were acknowledged by the Vicksburg District.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognizes the critical role that STEM education plays in enabling the United States to remain the economic and technological leaders of the global marketplace and enabling the Department of Defense and Army in the security of our Nation. We are committed to teaming with others to strengthen STEM-related programs that inspire current and future generations of young people to pursue careers in STEM fields.
