Vicksburg, Miss… The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District, the Grenada Lake Association and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host the 22nd Annual Thunder on Water Safe Boating Festival at Grenada Lake. The festival will be held 11–15 June 2014.
The annual festival is also hosted by numerous local, county and state agencies, private companies and individual volunteers. Last year's activities attracted 130,550 visitors.
Attractions at the event will include arts and crafts, youth fishing rodeo, fireworks, beauty pageant, carnival, 5K run/3K walk, fishing tournaments, car and motorcycle show, tractor pull, and water safety demonstrations.
The primary mission of Vicksburg District’s four Mississippi lakes, backwater levees and structures is flood damage risk reduction. Grenada Lake is located in the gently rolling hills of pine and hardwood forests just before the low lands of the Mississippi Delta begin. The lake is considered by many to be an inland paradise and encompasses approximately 90,427 acres. It has something for every outdoor enthusiast to include hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, bird watching, camping, picnicking, golfing and swimming.
