Vicksburg, Miss…… National Fishing and Boating Week (NFBW) is a national celebration of fishing and boating that coincides with most state's free fishing days. NFBW this year is June 7 - 14, 2014. The best way to celebrate NFBW is to get out on the water! Fishing and boating are some of the best ways to unwind and relieve stress. NFBW is sponsored by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation - http://takemefishing.org/nfbw/

During NFBW, most states offer free fishing days. These are days where anglers are allowed to fish on public bodies of water without a fishing license.

Free fishing days are a perfect opportunity for beginners to try out fishing for the first time. If you already have a fishing license, consider taking a friend or family member who has never been fishing out on the water for the day. Free fishing days for the following states are:

Arkansas Noon, June 6, 2014 to midnight, June 8, 2014
Louisiana June 7, 2014 to June 8, 2014
Mississippi June 7, 2014 to June 8, 2014 and July 4, 2014

With more than 370 million visits annually to 422 lake and river projects, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation in the nation. Approximately 90 percent of the more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide are within 50 miles of metropolitan areas and offer a diverse range of outdoor activities to people of all ages.
