Corps to Host “Women in the Outdoors” at Bayou Bodcau

Vicksburg, Miss ….The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will host the National Wildlife Turkey Federation’s Women in the Outdoors event this Saturday, 8 March, at Bayou Bodcau Wildlife Management Dam and Reservoir. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Durden House located at 1700 Bodcau Road, Haughton, Louisiana.

Vicksburg, Miss ….The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will host the National Wildlife Turkey Federation’s Women in the Outdoors event this Saturday, 8 March, at Bayou Bodcau Wildlife Management Dam and Reservoir. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Durden House located at 1700 Bodcau Road, Haughton, Louisiana.

The event will be conducted by the Bodcau Purrin’ Hens Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation to promote learning new outdoor skills, meeting people with similar interests, and spending time with family and friends.

Agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, LFO natural resources specialists, and local law enforcement officials will present classes on handguns, shotgun shooting, self protection, mosaic tile crafting, fish cleaning, turkey 101, and much more. Attendees can choose four from the 14 available classes offered.

A $45 registration fee will include a light breakfast, lunch, beverages throughout the day, and equipment and materials needed for use during classes. The fee will also include a one-year subscription to the Turkey Country magazine and a one-year membership to the Women in the Outdoors (or extension of current membership).

“This is a great way for women to get together and learn about the outdoors,” stated Suzanne Odom, LFO natural resources specialist.

The Vicksburg District manages thousands of acres that offer an array of recreational opportunities to include fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming and photography. The Louisiana Field Office of the Corps encompasses over 200 miles along the Ouachita River from Camden, Arkansas, to Jonesville, Louisiana, containing 24 parks and boat ramps. This includes Bayou Bodcau Dam, Wallace Lake, Caddo Lake, 10 recreation areas on the Red River, Grand Ecore Visitor Center and J Bennett Johnston Waterways Regional Visitor Center. These parks host over 732,000 visitors annually.
