Mississippi Native will become 58th District Commander

Vicksburg, Miss – Colonel John W. Cross, will replace Colonel Jeffery R. Eckstein as District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District during a Change of Command ceremony. Colonel Cross will become the 58th District Engineer / Commander for the Vicksburg District.

Vicksburg, Miss – Colonel John W. Cross, will replace Colonel Jeffery R. Eckstein as District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District during a Change of Command ceremony. Colonel Cross will become the 58th District Engineer / Commander for the Vicksburg District.

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees. The district is engaged in hundreds of projects and employs approximately 1,000 personnel.

The Vicksburg District has over 900 civilian employees with the primary mission of utilizing dredging vessels, mat sinking vessels and equipment, lakes, dams, levees, water control structures and wetlands management to assist with flood damage risk reduction.
