Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake Field Office will hold a ceremony recognizing three local citizens for extraordinary and heroic actions. Randy Hurst, John Ellard, and Danny Caldwell will be presented the Commanders Award for Public Service for their actions and quick response in rescuing an injured boater from a boating accident. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Grenada Lake Visitor Center at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday 17 April.
The accident occurred on Grenada Lake in March 2013. While fishing on Grenada Lake, Mitch Lundy Jr was ejected from his boat when it struck a submerged stump. Lundy received life threatening injuries when he was struck by the boat and propeller. The awards will be presented to these three citizens for life saving actions that saved Lundy’s life.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation in the nation. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. The primary mission of the Mississippi lakes is to provide flood risk reduction.
