USACE Vicksburg District announces publication date of Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Pearl River Basin Mississippi Federal Flood Risk Management Project

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District
Published June 30, 2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The expected date of publication of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Revised Draft Environmental Impact Statement (RDEIS) for the Pearl River Basin Mississippi Federal Flood Risk Management Project is Thursday, July 3, 2025. Once published, a Notice of Availability will be advertised in the Federal Register. The statement evaluates flood risk management alternatives in Rankin and Hinds County, Mississippi.

The release of the RDEIS will initiate a 45-day public comment period, which will remain open until August 18, 2025. The original Draft EIS was released to the public on June 7, 2024. In response to significant public input and receiving more than six thousand comments, the Corps is releasing a revised draft to further refine the alternatives.

During the review period, USACE will receive comments submitted at public meetings, by mail, or by email to gather feedback and comments on the RDEIS. USACE will incorporate the feedback received, as appropriate, into the final report, along with conducting all necessary peer and legal compliance reviews.

A virtual meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2025. In addition to the virtual meeting, in-person public meetings are scheduled for the week of July 28, 2025, in Monticello, MS, Slidell, LA, and Jackson, MS. Specific details regarding these meetings will be posted on the project page once available.

Once published, the RDEIS will be available for public review at: https://www.mvk.usace.army.mil/Missions/Programs-and-Project-Management/Pearl-River-FRM/.
