USACE Vicksburg District’s Levee Safety Center personnel recognized in annual national awards

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Levee Safety Center was recently recognized by USACE Headquarters (HQ USACE) for exceptional contributions of excellence in performance, leadership, professional development, and support throughout the Levee Safety Program.

Levee Safety Program Manager Melissa Mullen was selected as the 2024 Levee Safety Professional of the Year for her excellence in levee safety contributions. Award nominations were received agency-wide and the HQ USACE Levee Safety Committee chose Mullen out of numerous candidates. 

The Levee Cost Brochure Team was recognized as the 2024 Levee Safety Team Award of Excellence for their enhanced commitment to delivering quality projects while planning for future investments. 

Civil engineer Brian Oliver also represented the district. Mr. Oliver was selected as the 2024 Instrumentation and Performance Monitoring Professional of the Year for his leadership in and commitment to evaluation and assessment of instrumentation data.

These awards are a testament to the leadership of Mr. Noah Vroman, Director of the Levee Safety Center. Our full team understands and appreciates that what we do matters for the citizens of our nation.” 

The Levee Safety Center, a national center of expertise, provides support to the USACE Levee Safety Program and leads the implementation of the congressionally authorized National Levee Safety Initiative. The Center also collaborates with other agencies to develop national levee safety policy and is based in the Vicksburg District’s headquarters building in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees.
