Published April 25, 2022

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District’s Lake Ouachita Vista Trail recently saw aesthetic improvements thanks to volunteers.

Traildogs, a volunteer group, pitched in to improve the vista trail throughout March and April 2022.

Led by “Alpha Dog” Jerry Shields, the Traildogs’ additional improvements included removing a thistle weed infestation of thistle weeds in the area around the trail. The group also removed pivot vines and several dead trees along the trail. Together, nine volunteers donated 45 service hours.

The Traildogs donate many service hours to maintain Lake Ouachita Vista Trail, a 46-mile trail popular among visitors from across the country.

The Lake Ouachita Vista Trail enhances recreational opportunities at Lake Ouachita. The series of trails, beginning at the Denby Bay area of the lake, connect USACE campgrounds and commercial resorts. The vista trail was completed in 2015 with the help of Traildog volunteers and 11 local, state, and federal organizations.
