USACE Vicksburg District announces youth deer hunt at Columbia Lock and Dam

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces the date for its fall youth deer hunt at Columbia Lock and Dam in Columbia, Louisiana.

The hunt will take place October 9 in the natural area below the dam. Conditions include a mixture of pine and hardwoods with wildlife food plots.  

Applicants must have a valid Louisiana hunting license and be 17 years old or under. Applications are available at the Louisiana Field Office and the deadline for receiving applications is September 13. Ten total permits, including two alternates, will be drawn for the hunt. Chosen applicants will be notified via email or phone call.

The Columbia youth deer hunt is held to provide a recreational opportunity to the next generation of the nation’s population. This hunt is an effort to provide proper access, facilities, and other needed resources so these individuals can enjoy a safe and successful recreational experience.

The USACE Vicksburg District is engineering solutions to the nation’s toughest challenges. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana that holds nine major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees.
