VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close the Lake Chicot Pumping Plant bridge, located in Chicot County, Arkansas, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 28.

Crews will re-install fabricated pumping components to prepare for the upcoming season. The bridge closure is anticipated to take eight weeks depending on weather conditions and other factors. Notices will be posted at the Yellow Bayou Road turn-off and various major intersections throughout the project’s duration. The public is encouraged to take alternate routes during this time to avoid delays.

For additional information, contact Zach Jones at 870-265-5308, extension 1.

The USACE Vicksburg District oversees the Lake Chicot Pumping Plant project and its auxiliary structures, which keep poor-quality water from entering the lake and channel it to the Mississippi River instead. The project has a wide variety of missions, including flood risk management, water supply, recreation and environmental restoration.

The USACE Vicksburg District is engineering solutions to the nation’s toughest challenges. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees. The district is engaged in hundreds of projects and employs approximately 1,100 personnel.
