Arkabutla Lake Hosting Youth Waterfowl Hunt

VICKSBURG, Miss… The US Army Corps of Engineers’ Arkabutla Lake and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on January 27, 2018 and February 3, 2018 in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam.  The Youth Waterfowl Hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger generations of hunters proper techniques and ethics of the sport.  

A total of 12 hunters, six per hunt, will be selected from applications received by 3:00 p.m. January 13, 2018.   

The hunt will be open only to youth 10 to 15 years of age.  All youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older.  All participants will be responsible for meeting all age appropriate state and federal waterfowl hunting regulations.  

The accompanying adult is encouraged to possess a general knowledge of state and federal waterfowl hunting regulations.  The accompanying adult and youth are also encouraged to bring all necessary materials associated with waterfowl hunting, i.e. chest-waders, duck calls, and shotgun with ammunition.   
     
Applications may be completed at the Arkabutla Lake Field Office, or mailed to the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at 3905 Arkabutla Dam Road, Coldwater, Mississippi 38618. Any missing or false information will result in rejection of the application.  All state and federal waterfowl regulations will be enforced.  Selected applicants will be notified of their appropriate time and hunting date

Although the primary mission of Arkabutla Lake is flood damage risk reduction, approximately 855,000 individuals visit Arkabutla Lake annually to enjoy the camping, playgrounds, swimming areas, several types of trails, fishing, boat ramps and marinas.  The lake traffic brings $14,000,000 annually to the local economy and supports almost 250 jobs. Arkabutla Lake is one of the four lakes in Mississippi maintained and operated by the U. S.
