Corps Closes Riverton Beach for Winter Months

Vicksburg, Miss……The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has officially closed Riverton Beach for the winter months which marks the end of the summer recreational period.

Vicksburg, Miss……The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has officially closed Riverton Beach for the winter months which marks the end of the summer recreational period.

The beach is a part of the Corps’ 13-acre recreational area and normally opens for the summer season in May. The recreational area is located on the Ouachita River north of Riverton, Louisiana. The picnic sites, picnic shelters, playground, boat ramp, and restrooms will remain open.

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Louisiana Field Office provides day-use activities and camping at the Ouachita-Black River, Red River, Bayou Bodcau, Caddo Lake and Wallace Lake. These three river systems and two lakes have an annual attendance totaling over 1.2 million, supporting approximately 200 jobs and adding approximately $13 million into the local economy.
