Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • USACE Vicksburg District resumes collection of recreation area fees

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will resume the collection of fees at its recreation sites’ day use areas beginning Oct. 1. Fee collections were suspended earlier this year when recreation areas were closed due to COVID-19 precautions. The USACE Vicksburg District has collected camping fees through online reservations at www.recreation.gov and will continue this system across its projects in Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
  • USACE Vicksburg District temporarily closes Lake Chicot Pumping Plant bridge

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will temporarily close the Lake Chicot Pumping Plant bridge, located in Chicot County, Arkansas, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 28.
  • Mississippi River mainline levees Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement virtual public meetings scheduled

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) scheduled two virtual public meetings for its Draft Supplement II (Draft SEIS II) to the 1976 Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), Mississippi River and Tributaries (MR&T) Project, Mississippi River Mainline Levees (MRL).
  • USACE Vicksburg District begins drawdown at Eagle Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District, in collaboration and agreement with its local, state and federal partners, plans to operate the Muddy Bayou Control Structure to lower the elevation of Eagle Lake, located approximately 10 miles north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, to near 73 feet by early to mid-October.
  • USACE Vicksburg District signs agreement with City of Oxford for water distribution system rehabilitation

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District signed a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the City of Oxford, Mississippi, on Tuesday as part of the Mississippi Environmental Infrastructure Program (Section 592).
  • Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake to host veterans hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host its annual deer hunt for veterans at Grenada Lake Nov. 13-15.
  • Vicksburg District to host Meet the District virtual open house

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host its inaugural Meet the District Virtual Open House Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will provide large and small business representatives; university, community college and vocational school administrators; political and community leaders; and members of the public with the opportunity to learn about the district’s mission as well as its career and business opportunities
  • Vicksburg District’s Arkabutla Lake to host archery hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will host its annual archery hunt at Arkabutla Lake for the 2020-2021 deer hunting season. Four separate hunts will take place throughout the event with each lasting a total of two days including, Oct. 16-17, Oct. 18-19, Oct. 23-24 and Oct. 25-26.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District urges boaters on Lake Ouachita to take extra precautions as water continues to rise after heavy rainfall in the area.
