Published July 16, 2013

Vicksburg, Miss….. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District Louisiana Field Office has completed the final phase of an ongoing project to provide additional camping opportunities for the visitors of the Ouachita River near Hampton, Arkansas. The location for the campground is 17000 Calhoun 131, Hampton, Arkansas 71744.

During the first phase of construction in 2009, five campsites were constructed through a partnership between the Corps Louisiana Field Office and Calhoun County, Arkansas. Phase two includes the recent addition of two concrete campsites, picnic sites, and paving of the roads. The camping area has a two-lane boat ramp, parking areas and a comfort station.

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Louisiana Field Office provides day-use activities and camping at the Ouachita-Black River, Red River, Bayou Bodcau, Caddo Lake, and Wallace Lake. These three river systems and two lakes have an annual attendance that totals over 1.2 million, supports approximately 200 jobs, and adds approximately $13 million to the local economy. For additional information about the campground, contact the Felsenthal Lock and Dam office at 870-943-2307 - extension 103.
