VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District signed a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) with the City of Clinton, Mississippi, Friday, August 21 as part of the Mississippi Environmental Infrastructure Program (Section 592).

The PPA will rehabilitate Clinton’s water system, including the refurbishment of a one million gallon elevated water storage tank, and implement a variety of improvements such as the installation of tank mixing equipment and replacement of water mains.

Authorized by the Water Resources Development Act of 1999, the Section 592 Program provides assistance to non-federal interests in Mississippi. Assistance can include design and construction for water-related environmental infrastructure, as well as resource protection and development projects. According to PPA regulations, assistance may be provided only for projects that are publically owned, and the non-federal interest must enter into a written cost share agreement to furnish its required cooperation for the project. The cost share for this project will be 75 percent federally funded and 25 percent non-federally funded.

The signing ceremony was held at Clinton City Hall. Mayor Phil Fisher signed the agreement for the City, and USACE Vicksburg Commander Col. Robert Hilliard signed for USACE.

“This agreement provides the USACE Vicksburg District with the opportunity to help the City of Clinton sustain and protect its infrastructure,” said Hilliard. “The Vicksburg District is proud to continue its long, mutually beneficial relationship with the City of Clinton, and we are eager to provide our assistance for this vital effort.”

The USACE Vicksburg District is engineering solutions to the nation’s toughest challenges. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees. The Vicksburg District is engaged in hundreds of projects and employs approximately 1,100 personnel.
