  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts Youth Raccoon Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Arkabutla Lake and the Northwest Mississippi Raccoon Hunting Association (NMRHA) will host a six-day raccoon hunt for youth 10-15 years of age Jan. 25-26, Feb. 1-2, and Feb. 8-9, 2019. Only two parties will be allowed to hunt per night.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Arkabutla Lake will host two squirrel hunts on Jan. 19-20, 2019, for youth aged 10-15 in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam.
  • Repair Work at Columbia to Continue into 2019

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District briefed industry partners, as well as local, state and federal officials, Nov. 30 on the current status of emergency repairs on Columbia Lock and Dam, which is located on the Ouachita River approximately seven miles upstream of Columbia, Louisiana.
  • Corps’ Vicksburg District Opens Boat Ramps on Ouachita River

    Vicksburg, Miss. – Six boat ramps operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers within the Columbia Pool will be re-opened by Nov. 27 as a result of rainfall and increases in Ouachita River stages. The ramps that will be re-opened include Prairion, Bawcomville, Moon Lake, Sterlington, Finch Bayou and Felsenthal South. Riverton boat ramp, just upstream of Columbia Lock and Dam, will remain closed due to low water levels.

  • Lower Mississippi River stages above normal

    As 2018 nears closure and the MVD begins planning for 2019, we remain vigilant in monitoring flood stages in the Mississippi River valley. Because of the current higher-than-average river stages, the lower valley will be more susceptible to large rain events throughout the winter. Residents with a vested interest in the Mississippi River valley are asked to monitor river stages over the next three to four months.

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, November 11 and 12.
