Vicksburg District Employee Returns From Kandahar

Vicksburg, Miss. – U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District (Corps) employee Philip Rogers recently returned from an overseas civilian deployment tour of duty as a project engineer at the Kandahar Airfield in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

While deployed, Rogers was attached to the U. S. Army and was a team member with the development of a warehouse and drainage control project. He was also on a project team that constructed a command and control facility and operations center for the U. S. Air Force.

Kandahar Airfield plays a central role in sustaining approximately 26,000 U.S. and coalition forces and contract personnel and supports thousands more personnel assigned to coalition installations throughout southern Afghanistan.  Kandahar Airfield is the busiest single-runway airport and largest NATO base in the world.

Rogers, a native of Oxford, is a graduate of Oxford High School. He earned his Bachelors degree in civil engineering from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).

The Corps of Engineers is the primary organization building military bases, police stations, roads, air strips and other infrastructure projects in Afghanistan to increase the country's stability, security and economy. In the last year, nineteen Vicksburg District employees have deployed in support of overseas contingency operations.  For more information about the Vicksburg District and overseas contingency operations.
