SARDIS, Miss. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District has selected George Harris as the new Natural Resources Manager at Sardis Lake.

As Natural Resources Manager, Harris is responsible for leading the stewardship and management of more than 90,000 acres of water and public lands. He also works closely with local communities, partner agencies, marinas and leaseholders to support responsible management of Sardis Lake’s resources and recreational opportunities.

Harris' career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began at the Sardis Lake Field Office in May 2000 as a Co-Op student. Over the past 26 years, he has had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles, including Park Ranger, Natural Resources Specialist, Supervisory Natural Resources Specialist, and now Natural Resources Manager.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in park management operations, natural resource management, and supporting emergency operations deployments.

“I am grateful for the experiences, mentors, and colleagues who have influenced my professional journey and look forward to continuing to serve and support the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Sardis Lake mission,” Harris said.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is engineering solutions to the nation's toughest challenges while advancing its commitment to building infrastructure, not paperwork. The district delivers vital missions across a 68,000-square-mile area spanning portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Its area of responsibility includes nine major river basins and approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees, supporting flood risk reduction, navigation, environmental stewardship, and resilient infrastructure for the region.
