Life Jackets are Mandatory at MS Lakes

The following life jacket rules are being enforced at all four of the Vicksburg District - North Mississippi lakes - Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid and Grenada:

  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while swimming outside of designated swimming areas
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while skiing or being pulled by a vessel, regardless of vessel length
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket on powered vessels 16 to 26 feet in length whenever under power by the main propulsion unit
  • All persons must wear a US Coast Guard-approved lief jacket at all times on powered vessels less than 16 feet in length or on non-powered vessels regardless of length

  • Notice of Availability for Lease of Agricultural Land at Upper Yazoo Project

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will lease an agricultural tract in the Upper Yazoo Project Mitigation, Tract No. 401, in Washington County. This tract of real property to be leased for crops contains 273 acres in two sections.
  • Jared Gartman selected as Emergency Management Accreditation Program Commissioner

    VICKSBURG, Miss., May 19, 2015 -- Jared Gartman, Chief of Readiness and Contingency Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mississippi Valley Division, was selected to serve as an Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) Commissioner, as the Federal Agency Representative to the Commission. EMAP’s mission fosters excellence and accountability in emergency management and homeland security programs, by establishing credible standards applied in a peer review accreditation process.
  • The Corps Encourages Life Jacket Wear for Boaters and Swimmers

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers always encourages safety for everyone and especially when engaged in water related activities. The Corps is stressing the Wear Your Life Jacket safety message for the Memorial Day weekend by encouraging that you wear life jackets when boating or swimming.
  • Vicksburg District campaign promotes lifejackets and offers prizes

    Vicksburg, Miss… This summer the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is promoting life jacket use with the Wear It to Win It! campaign on Facebook and Twitter. May 20th through July 8th, the Corps is offering prizes to those who submit photos of themselves or their friends and family properly wearing a life jacket.
  • LDWF Family Fish Fest Heading to North Louisiana in May

    Vicksburg, Miss… The family-friendly fishing event’s next stop is Saturday, May 16 at the Ivan Lake Recreation Area near Cotton Valley, LA. Everyone is encouraged to attend for a fun day of fishing, educational activities, and the chance to win great prizes!
  • Enjoy America’s Waterways, Play It Safe and Return Home Alive

    Vicksburg, Miss… Before you head out for a day on or near the water, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) encourages you to make sure you have life jackets for everyone and that they please wear them. On average, 9 out of 10 people who drowned at a USACE lake or river project didn’t wear a life jacket. Life jackets save lives by keeping you afloat and providing time for rescue.
  • Red River Waterway Presents Annual Water Resource Festival

    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the Red River Waterway Commission and other partners, are hosting the 10th Annual Red River Water Resource Festival May 8-9, 2015. The two-day festival begins at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8th, with safe summer presentations for approximately 500 5th-7th graders from Caddo, Bossier, and Webster parishes.
  • Corps of Engineers releases final Mississippi River Resource Assessment report

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 21, 2015 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) today released the Final Assessment Report of the Lower Mississippi River Resource Assessment. This report addresses habitat, recreation and information needs on the Lower Mississippi River.
  • SAME Board Inducts Corps Team Member into Academy of Fellows

    Henry A. Dulaney, chief of Engineering and Construction Division of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District, has been named a Fellow by the National Board of Direction of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
  • Bayou Bodcau Hosting 2nd Annual Patriot’s Day

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District’s Bayou Bodcau is hosting its second annual Patriot’s Day. This family oriented activity is scheduled for April 18, 2015, 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Ivan Lake, Cotton Valley, Louisiana.
