Vicksburg, Miss…… The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District has officially closed Riverton Beach for the winter months, which marks the end of the summer recreational period.

The beach is a part of the Corps’ 13-acre recreational area that is located north of Riverton, Louisiana, on the Ouachita River.

The beach will reopen in May 2016 for the summer season. The 13-acre recreational area that provides picnic sites, picnic shelters, a playground, boat ramp, and restroom buildings will remain open.

The Vicksburg District’s LFO provides day-use activities and camping at two river systems and three lakes and encompasses the Ouachita-Black River, Red River, Bayou Bodcau, Caddo Lake, Wallace Lake, Grand Ecore Visitor Center, and the J. Bennett Johnston Waterway Regional Visitor Center. The annual attendance at these areas totals over 1.3 million visitors, supports approximately 200 jobs, and adds approximately $13 million into the local economy.
