Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the Red River Waterway Commission and other partners, are hosting the 10th Annual Red River Water Resource Festival May 8-9, 2015. The two-day festival begins at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8th, with safe summer presentations for approximately 500 5th-7th graders from Caddo, Bossier, and Webster parishes.

A national champion swimmer with U.S.A. Swimming will discuss and demonstrate life-saving techniques to the students. He will be joined by members of the Shreveport-Bossier Fire Department Dive Team and Ozark Society for the life-saving techniques.

On Saturday, May 9, 2015, the final day of the festival, and free to the public, to be held at the Louisiana Boardwalk, will feature water safety, fish and waterfowl biology, water resources, and a life jacket giveaway.

This event, expected to attract approximately 20,000 visitors, will enhance knowledge of the natural resources of the Red River Waterways.

This festival will emphasize how to “Make A Splash for Life” by learning to swim, wearing a life jacket, and other techniques to stay safe in the water.
