Lake Greeson’s Bear Creek Cycle Trail Clean Up Day

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees. The district is engaged in hundreds of projects and supports disaster response in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

Vicksburg, Miss…Personnel with Lake Greeson of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District and Daisy State Park will host the Bear Creek Cycle Trail Clean Up Day. The Clean Up Day will be held Saturday, 15 February 2014, 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Interested volunteers should meet at the Kirby Landing Marina Pavilion at 8:00 a.m. to sign in and be assigned different areas. Lunch will be served at noon at the Kirby Landing Pavilion.

Tasked to be completed during the clean up include cutting limbs, draining mud holes, collecting trash, marking trails and removing loose rocks. All-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and mountain bikes will be allowed on the trail for the clean-up. Volunteers should bring tools such as clippers, shovels, pick axes, and trash bags.

The Bear Creek Cycle Trail is approximately 20 miles in length and incorporates access points at Kirby Landing recreational area and Bear Creek recreational area. Some areas of the trail are very rugged, due to the steep rocky terrain.
