Vicksburg, Miss – The Greenwood West Levee Road in Greenwood, Mississippi will be closed for levee maintenance for approximately 30 days beginning 2 July 2013.

The closed section of the levee road is located where the pavement ends on East Claiborne Avenue and extends northward approximately one mile to Puckett Avenue.

Large / heavy excavation equipment will be reconstructing the culvert that carries rainwater runoff through the land side to the river side of the levee. For safety reasons, residents are asked to stay clear of this area until construction is completed.

The Yazoo Backwater Levee Project extends from just north of Vicksburg approximately 60 miles to the vicinity of Hallandale and Belzoni, Mississippi.  It protects nearly 2000 square miles that are subject to backwater flooding from the Mississippi River.
