Riverton Beach Re-Opens for Summer Visitors

Vicksburg, Mississippi…The Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District will reopen the Riverton Recreation area beach for the summer months prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

The 13-acre area recreation area, which is open year round, is located north of Riverton, Louisiana, on the Ouachita River.  The swim beach normally operates from mid-May until mid-September.  Riverton is the only recreation area with a swim beach under the LFO and on the Ouachita Black River system.  Picnic sites, a picnic shelter, playground, boat ramp, and restroom facilities are also available.

In preparation for the reopening with safety being a priority, rangers have been checking the swimming area for hazards and placing proper buoys and boundary markers. In addition, the facilities have been cleaned and checked for proper mechanical operation and will be fully functional prior to the reopening.

 

The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana. The Louisiana Field Office provides day-use activities and camping at the Ouachita-Black River, Red River, Bayou Bodcau, Caddo Lake, and Wallace Lake. These three river systems and two lakes have an annual attendance totaling over 1.2 million, supporting approximately 200 jobs and adding approximately $13 million into the local economy.
